Tone and shine, no new lightening

Lightened hair keeps changing after you leave the chair. Water, sun and heat pull tone out, so a cool blonde drifts warm and brassy and a soft bronde starts to look flat or too pale. A color glaze corrects that. Because it is translucent, it works with the lightness you already have rather than covering it, adding depth, cool tones or warm tones depending on what your hair needs.

Here is how it differs from its siblings. All over color is a roots to ends color for going darker or covering gray, while a glaze is a sheer application at the shampoo bowl meant for previously lightened hair and made without permanent color. Partial highlights add new lighter pieces around your face and top. A glaze adds nothing lighter. It refines what is already there, which makes it a natural bridge between lightening appointments.

Color glazes are offered by many of our stylists, including Morgan, Natalie, Andrea and Averee, who all list blonding among their specialties, and Maura for soft dimensional color, and others on the team.

  • Brassiness, calmed

When blonde turns yellow or orange, a glaze with cool tones rebalances the warmth so your color looks intentional again. If you prefer some warmth, your stylist can lean the formula that way instead.

  • Depth for hair that went too light

If your last lightening landed brighter than you wanted, translucent color adds a little depth back without hiding your dimension. It softens the result gently rather than starting over from scratch.

  • Shine you can see

A glaze leaves hair looking glossy and reflective, often the difference between blonde that looks fresh and blonde that looks tired. You finish with a blow dry so the shine and tone are easy to see.

  • A gentler option

It is made without permanent color and applied at the shampoo bowl, a lighter touch for hair that has already been through lightening. Your stylist decides the formula only after looking closely at your hair.

More about color Glaze

What to expect at your appointment

After you check in with the Guest Care Team, your stylist starts with a consultation. Tell them what is bothering you: brassiness, dullness, hair that went too light, or a tone you simply want to shift. Your stylist studies your lightened hair in good light and picks a translucent formula. At the shampoo bowl the glaze is applied all over and left to process while you relax with a drink and a blanket. It is then rinsed, and your stylist finishes with a blow dry so you can see the refreshed tone.

Aftercare and maintenance

Tone fades fastest with hot water and frequent washing, so rinse cool, shampoo less often and use a color protecting shampoo. High heat can yellow lightened hair, so reach for a heat protectant and turn your irons down. A shower head filter helps reduce brassiness and dryness. Olaplex, a bond builder, sits on the retail wall alongside the Signature Elevate line and Redken. Ask your stylist when to glaze again between lightening visits.

How pricing works

A color glaze is booked as its own service. What you pay depends on the stylist you book, since each keeps their own menu, and on your hair. Every color service includes a standard product allotment, and longer or denser hair may need extra product, which your stylist discusses first. See the Service Menu for current pricing.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a glaze and all over color?

A glaze is translucent, applied at the shampoo bowl and made without permanent color, to refresh tone and shine in hair that has already been lightened. All over color runs from roots to ends to go darker, blend gray or shift tone. If you are blonde and just need your tone fixed, start with the glaze.

Will a glaze make my hair lighter?

No. A glaze does not lift or brighten. It adds tone, shine and sometimes a little depth to the lightness you already have. If you want new lighter pieces around your face and top, book partial highlights or another Go Lighter service instead.

Can a glaze fix brassy blonde?

Often, yes. Rebalancing warmth in previously lightened hair is exactly what this service is for. Your stylist looks at your hair during the consultation and chooses tones that cool the brassiness, or keeps some warmth if that is what you prefer.

Can I get a glaze if my hair has never been lightened?

This service is designed for previously lightened hair. If your hair is natural and you want a deeper or different shade, all over color is usually the better fit. Your stylist can help you choose at the consultation, or you can text the salon with questions.

How long will the tone last?

That depends on how often you wash, your water, and how much heat you use. Cool rinses, a color protecting shampoo and a heat protectant all help. Many guests pair a glaze with their lightening schedule, and your stylist will plan the timing for your hair.
