Brightness where it shows, depth everywhere else

A partial service puts its lightening where the light hits: framing your face, along your part and through the crown. Underneath and through the back, your own color stays in place, so the result reads soft rather than streaky. Your stylist chooses the method, which may be foils, balayage, foilayage or babylights, and finishes with a gloss to set the tone you want.

Think of this as the focused version of full highlights. Full highlights carry dimension through your whole head, while a partial keeps the work near your face. That makes it a good first step into color, a quick refresh for existing dimension, or the right call if you love your base shade and only want a lift. If you want far more blonde than natural color, modern blonding fits better. Every appointment includes shampoo, blowdry and an extended consultation.

Partial highlights are offered by most of our color team, including Natalie for balayage and foilayage, Jessica and Rachel for babylights, Mei Leigh for dimensional color, and Hannah, along with others on the team.

  • Frames your face

Lightening along the hairline and part brightens your complexion and catches light when you move. Because the pieces sit right where you see them, a modest amount of lightening makes a visible difference.

  • Keeps your natural base

Your own color stays through the underneath and back sections. That depth gives the highlights contrast and keeps regrowth soft, so your roots blend quietly instead of drawing a hard line.

  • Easy to customize

Ask for a simple refresh or brighter ends, and add gray coverage, lowlights or a root melt. Thick or long hair gets extra time built in, so your stylist never rushes the placement.

  • A gentle entry to blonde

If you have never lightened your hair, a partial lets you try brightness without committing to a full head. Many guests start here, then move to full highlights or modern blonding later.

More about partial Highlights

What to expect at your appointment

Your visit starts with an extended consultation. Your stylist looks at your current color, talks through what you like and want to avoid, and maps out where the lightening will go. Bring a photo or two if you have them. Once the lightener is in, settle in with a latte, sparkling water or a cozy blanket while it processes. A gloss then refines the tone, followed by a shampoo and blowdry so you leave seeing the finished result, not a guess.

Aftercare and maintenance

Lightened hair loses some protein, so a bond builder such as Olaplex helps keep it strong and shiny. The retail wall also carries the Signature Elevate line, which is free of sulfates and sodium chloride. Turn your hot tools down, since high heat can yellow lightened pieces, and use a heat protectant. A shower filter cuts down on brassiness. Your stylist will plan the timing of your next refresh with you.

How pricing works

Partial highlight pricing depends on your hair. Thick or long hair takes more time and product, and options like brighter ends, gray coverage, lowlights or a root melt each add to the service. The stylist you book also sets the rate, and our Rising Star stylists offer a highlight special. See the Service Menu for current pricing.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between partial and full highlights?

Partial highlights focus lightening around your face, hairline and the top of your head, leaving your natural color through the back and underneath. Full highlights place dimension throughout your entire head. If you mostly wear your hair down and want brightness near your face, a partial is often enough.

Will partial highlights work if I have gray hair?

Yes. You can add gray coverage to a partial highlight service, so your stylist blends or covers gray at the base while placing brighter pieces around your face. Choose it when you book online so enough time is reserved for both steps.

How light can I go with partial highlights?

Partial highlights are designed for going subtly lighter while keeping your natural base, and how bright the pieces get depends on your starting color and history. If you want to see mostly blonde, modern blonding is the better service and can take more than one session.

How often should I refresh partial highlights?

Because your natural base stays in place, regrowth blends softly and you can usually go a while between visits. Many guests return every couple of months, depending on how much contrast they like. Your stylist will suggest timing that fits your hair.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Bring a few inspiration photos, plus anything you know about past color, box dye or lightening, even from a while ago, since that history affects how your hair lifts. New guests get an extended consultation on lightening services, so there is time to talk it through.
